In an interview recently with Forbes Magazine, our own Paul Marsden, CFO at Tropical Smoothie Cafe®, shared how his deep experience in both finance and IT has helped shape new initiatives and innovation at Tropical Smoothie Cafe®.
As the brand invested in leadership to support company growth, Marsden joined our team in 2017 and now oversees both the finance and IT departments. His cross-functional skills are critical as we innovate the brand and help us to expand to 1,500 cafes by 2025. “Overseeing both provides me with a broader view of which technologies satisfy our guests and provide the best return on investment for our Franchise Owners and, ultimately, make their lives easier,” said Marsden.
Marsden praises Tropical Smoothie Cafe® for a collaborative environment that works toward common goals. Those goals include both short-term and long-term strategies that focus on franchisee profitability, unit economics, an enhanced guest experience, and tech innovations. Marsden has focus on improving efficiency by using business intelligence software to help integrate data from across all systems to perform marketing and operations analyses. In addition, workflow automation tools have been added to help make payables and expense processes more efficient.
These updates are not going unnoticed by the Tropical Smoothie Cafe® franchise community. “Over 63% of our franchise agreements last year came from our existing Franchise Owners. That proves out their confidence in our brand,” said Marsden.
In order to accelerate growth and to hit our aggressive goals, Tropical Smoothie Cafes’ leadership team, refined the business strategy in 2018 to focus on top priority markets where the brand has the highest opportunity for growth, and identified the existing ready-to-grow Franchise Owners who are key for accelerated growth. We can’t wait to see the innovations ahead from the Tropical Smoothie Cafe® team!
